After checking with J to see if he’d created a new email address and sent this message to me in an attempt to curb my raging Sephora habit (It’s ACROSS THE STREET from my office. I’m not made of stone, you know!), I looked back through my makeup reviews, and realized that the emailer was correct. I have been primarily reviewing Sephora purchases lately, likely due to its proximity. (Rite Aid is, like, three whole blocks away, people.)
True (and fascinating) story.
My point here is that nobody is paying me to review anything. Ordinarily, I’d never have even thought to announce that, but the aforementioned discussion at the session somehow compels me to mention it. (And also let you know that the gum was successfully removed from my pants, and I did, in fact, obtain more free stuff. )
Sephora Professionel Most Complete Lip Balm -$2
I’ve shared my love of this balm with a few of my fellow lipgloss hos. This is the most fantastic lip balm ever. So great, in fact, that I have foregone my customary “no pots” policy for it. It’s heavy-duty, but not too thick, and is slightly tingly with a subtle vanilla flavor. Love this.
Johnson & Johnson Soothing Naturals Soothe and Protect Balm Stick -$5
Oh, don’t call Child Services; I’ll explain.
OH.
Speaking of which?
You know what I DON’T love? This new deodorant that I recently tried. The logo of said deodorant is commonly known as the bird of peace, but I experienced no such peace upon trying this product, so instead, I shall call it Pigeon. Because we all know how much I love those birds. Anyway, I applied the Pigeon deodorant, in a scent called Smooth Cashmere. (Which, by the way? Befuddles me to no end. Unless it was left out in the rain and hidden in the back of a dank closet for three months, how would cashmere have a scent?) On the subway a mere hour later, I had the following internal monologue:
It seems that the Smooth Cashmere scent of Pigeon-brand deodorant had somehow downgraded to Hobo Crotch.
Might I add that I generally do not stink? And that this deodorant not only failed to complete its intended role, but actively made me reek?
Suck it, Pigeon deodorant.
Where was I?
Oh, yes. Stuff I actually like:
Skin Milk Facial Moisturizer $6
C'mon, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention my favorite lip gloss under $10, right?
I have this in a shade called “Glaze,” which I’ve recommended to a number of friends, and it appears (so far, at least) to be universally flattering. It’s very sheer, and shiny without being sticky. Oh, and it has SPF 20. Pretty and sun-smart. :)
What are your favorite beauty bargains? I NEED TO KNOW.
And don't you love how I pose important (to me) questions like this in the middle of the weekend, when the internets are, for all intents and purposes, dead? My timing, it is impeccable.

You are so dead on about the Neutrogena lip gloss. I got it when you recommended it a while back and it is gorgeous! :-)
Jonniker recommended the Secret Platinum anti-perspirant and she is right. I love it!!
I use the unscented - why would I choose to use something that they put 2 cents worth of the cheapest scent in? So I can smell like deodorant? No, thanks.
You have become my source for products, and I've been meaning to e-mail you to thank you for it for AGES AND AGES.
First off, the Softsoap Pomegranate Mango shower gel that Lawyerish loved at my house is the direct result of a recommendation from you. I LOVE that shower gel with the passion of a thousand suns.
Second, the Origins Spring Fever cream, oh my stars! Lawyerish brought that for me, and I am obsessed. It's luscious.
As for my own cheap recommendations, my favorite shaving product-slash-facial cleanser is Baby Magic Baby Bath. It leaves skin so soft and smooth, and nick-free after shaving. And for the face, it cleanses perfectly for normal-to-oily skins.
Also, the world's best tweezers is La Cross Precision. At $6, it beats the pants off of the Tweezerman, and boy does it grip the hair.
I'm usually anti-pot when it comes to lip balm, too, but you have raved about the Sephora stuff so convincingly that I will have to pick some up the next time I actually get to a Sephora. (I do NOT have one right across from my office.)
Also, I do love the Neutrogena LipSoother, but my favorite is the MoistureShine Tinted Lip Balm. I have it in "Pure," and I love it.
I've only been reading for a little while, but knew immediately that I would comment on today's topic. I LOVE this lotion, (also stolen from a baby). Huggies Nourishing Lotion with mango, coconut and aloe. Mmmmmm. Silky and so yummy smelling!
i hated that anti-perspirant too!
when giving it a try, i smelled like a 7 month old's butt who had been neglected from the bath in many days.
my numero uno favorite thing is cherry chapstick.and doesn't it have like, some spf in it?
and one more thing, because i'm a lazy whore, i like to use ponds disposable exfoliating clean sweep cucumber cleansing towlettes. okay, so it's mouth full but i take my eye makeup off with it as well. this is a wonderful invention for me. i sit in bed and wash my face. what more could a girl ask for?
It's funny that you post this now because I am in the process of MY cheap make-up post. It should be up by Friday...mind if I link here?
Pretty much the only facial moisturizer I've used for the last 16 years is $4.99 St. Ives Collagen & Elastin lotion. I still get carded, it's that good.
Also, you've heard it before, but Terra Tints lip balm in Blaze. $4.00. If there were only one tube of this left on the planet and it was possessed by a sweet grandma that bakes cookies and knits, I'd totally take her down for it.
On a deodorant note: NEVER, EVER use the Adidas aluminum-free stuff. It actually CREATED horrifically bad B.O.
I smelled like vinegar and feet. Yum
I was going to email you - on Saturday, I finally picked up the Sephora lip balm and YOU. WERE. RIGHT. It is AMAZING. I want to marry it. If that's wrong, I don't want to be right.
My favorite cheap drugstore thing is Oil of Olay Complete face lotion. I'm on probably my tenth bottle and I love it.
Oh! And I also bought that Boots glowy lotion you mentioned a while back (I had to try 3 different Targets until I found it) and again, you were right. Love it.
Metalia, you are wise in the ways of product. You haven't let me down yet! :)
oooo, I use oil of olay daily moisturizer, spf and LOVE it! I think I have been using it for well over 5 years.
I use the Suave version of Secret Platinum Powder Scented. It's works and is cheaper!
The Neutrogena lip gloss is one of my faves, as well. But if you're looking for a regular chapstick (I'm kind of a chapstick junkie), I'm crushing on the EO Organic Lip Treatment right now. I got the Lavender Aloe one at Whole Foods. Love!
I love these posts except I could go on for hours!
I use St. Ives Apricot Scrub a few times a week . It is around 3 dollars and nothing makes my skin softer or more healthy looking. I've loved it since I was around 13 and have passed my love of it to my husband (who'd probably deny it).
My favorite deodarant is Kiss my Face Liquid Rock. It is all natural but it works better that other over perfumey crap. It is right around 5 dollars and worth every single penny. Any of my friends who have tried this product have switched from "shhhhh....".
I still love Bag balm too. It is in a cute tin can and has a cow on the front. I keep it on the bathroom shelf and slather it on my lips whenever I walk by. It smells kind of Ben-Gayish but the smell fades and it makes my lips feel great.
Enough for now, maybe I'll come back later with more goodies.
First, I have to say my husband LOVES Johnson and Johnson baby products. We have three in our shower right now. I swear he can fix things and grunt and stuff.
Also, I love Loreal Colour Riche lipgloss (in Rich Nude). Although I don't know the price, I'm sure it's under $10. Also, most OPI nail polishes ($6-8). And Aveeno cleansing pads ($8).
Cetaphil rocks. It's dirt cheap and my skin looks great since I've been using it, better than when I was slathering on $22 Purity Made Simple. Take that, Philosophy!
Cover Girl Exact Lash is the best mascara I've ever used.
And Secret Platinum deodorant. Oh, yes.
(I feel like I always recommend the same products, but they are just that good.)
Olay Hydrate and Cleanse face wash is the best. It is the only face soap I've ever used that did not make me feel like I immediately needed to immerse my face in a bucket of moisturizer.
My husband bought me some Badger Lemon and Ginger lip balm and I love it. It also comes in a little tin which I thought I wouldn't like but I do!
Secret Platinum deodorant rules. Lawyerish recommended that to me. The Degree "little black dress" approved deodorant 1. does not work and 2. is not approved by any of my black er...clothing.
Where can I get that $1 all over cover stuff in real life?? The $5 shipping was just too much for me. (I suck, I know.)
I work across the street from both Sephora and Rite Aid. It's super fabulous. And today, I promise to go and buy the $2 lip gloss. Dude, I need some new lip products.
So what is my favorite cheap product? I love Aussie Sprunch Spray. It's so 1980's, but I love it. It's the only spray that will work for me.
Highly unlikely that anyone's reading this, but I must defend the Adidas Aluminum-free deodorant! It works beautifully on me, and totally helps me to alleviate any concerns of aluminum and Alzheimer's. However, I seem to be alone in this, though I know one other person.
