Thing One: Phone Help
My phone contract is up very soon, and I have to make a decision on the new phone I’d like to get NOW. Trouble is, I get flustered and overwhelmed whenever I go to the phone store, because the employees start hovering with eerie, Manson-like smiles, and talking Nerdish to me. (What is this language you speak? I do not know!)
I currently have a Palm Treo, and while the phone itself works fine, most of its other features leave much to be desired. I, for instance, like to receive email when people send it to me, and not three hours later. I also enjoy NOT having my phone freeze up on me when I am using it to read blogs on it during the day looking at very, very important documents. I’m picky like that.
Anyway, in descending order of importance, I'd primarily use my phone for: email, internet and actual phone usage. A camera is important too, because how else would we get photos like this? THE WORLD NEEDS TO SEE PICTURES OF FRUIT-LEGGINGS MAN!
I’ve narrowed the field somewhat, but the decision is still a big one, and comes down to this: iPhone or BlackBerry?
More specifically, iPhone, BlackBerry Curve, BlackBerry Pearl, or Blackberry 8830?
Do any of you have any of these phones? Which one(s)? Do you love it? Just like it? Want to hurl it out the nearest window, not even caring if you hit a pedestrian--WHO HAPPENS TO BE A BLIND NUN ON HER WAY TO FEED SICK BABIES--such is your abject hatred of the phone? These are the things I need to know. Help me! What phone should I get?
Thing Two: Fashion Help
My parents are being honored at an event on Sunday,which J and I are attending. In terms of dress code, I’m fairly certain that it’s black tie. (I, um, threw out the invitation already. Daughter of the Year!) We’ve known about this event forever, but it somehow sneaked up on me all the same, and --being 27 weeks pregnant--my fancy clothing options are somewhat limited. Once again, I have two choices here. The contenders are: Sexy Brown Lace Outfit (“SBLO”), or Classy, Conservative Black Outfit (“CCBO”).

Oh, so you've noticed my pajama pants, have you? The skirt of this outfit is at the dry cleaners. It basically looks like the sleeve of the shirt and falls right above the knee. Oh, wait. Here's a (really shitty) picture of the whole outfit. Ah, the wonders of Google:
I honestly think SBLO is the prettier of the two, but it’s also springier, and considering that I’m still wearing my puffy down coat every day (DAMN YOU, WINTER! DAMN YOU TO HELL!), I don’t know if it’s seasonally appropriate yet. CCBO is totally workable, I think, and the advantage it has is that I would probably get a new pair of shoes to go with it. (But what color? Help, again!)
So, which phone? Which outfit?

My eyes are still burning from the fruit leggings man but I'll give it my best shot...
I like the brown one best BUT if you go with the classic black one, try shaking it up with some bold heels like in red or yellow. A pop of color! Like a hint of spring!

No help with the phone, but I definitely like the brown outfit best. I understand that seasonally it might not be quite right, but it definitely doesn't scream spring to me. If you do go with the black outfit I'd jazz it up with a bright red heels or something equally as striking,
iPhone. Worth the money- it's an investment in not wanting to kill yourself whenever your other smart phone acts really stupid.
Brown, lacy outfit.
The brown is really cute, but the silhouette of the black looks better from the side. And you can wear any shoes, that's the beauty of it!

That said, I also LURVE the brown outfit. It's HAWT.
Metalia - CCBO, pointy toe black heels, black clutch bag, with the iPhone. I would keep it simple with no jewelry (outfit, not the iPhone).

iPhone!! Not that I have any experience whatsoever with any of the phones mentioned, I just love the iPhone and can not wait until the day my contract expires so that I can purchase one of my very own.
Also, I choose the black dress. The brown one kinda looks see through to me, but maybe thats why its sexy?
I am no techo guru, but I tried out my brother's i-phone recently and HATED it... very slow access to internet, finger touching thing didn't work. NOT AS ADVERTISED.
As for the outfits, I like the first one because you look adorably pregnant in it and THOSE SHOES F-ING ROCK!

1. iPhone. You will love it. I make out with mine daily.
2. CCBO. With bright shoes, as Sizzle suggested, and a bright clutch. And some bling, but not too much -- perhaps a really stunning necklace or bracelet.
3. Can we find Fruit Leggings Man when I am in the city? Because he needs a stern talking-to.

With regards to the outfit- I vote black with silver shoes.

Ok, I had a blackberry pearl. It was fine. I currently have an iPhone. I LOVE IT. Seriously, love it. Touch screen is awesome, email getting great (has an auto connect to available wi-fi, which makes it even awesomer), and there are some sweet web-apps available (bejeweled is my fav). The camera is not fantastic, but fine for those gotta get a pic moments like fruit tights guy.
The outfit? Honestly, I'm torn. The brown is what I lean toward just a little bit more...

I am a proud iPhone owner. And I 100% say go for the iPhone, especially if your usage is in order of email, internet, phone. I would say the only negative thing about the iPhone is that it is kind of annoying to make actual phone calls. (Especially while driving (what?! I KNOW I'm not supposed to but let's be honest who doesn't?!)) The email function is great and the internet is speedy.
As for the dress - umm I like the lacey number. Black is boring. But you could jazz it up with some big bright jewelry.

I'm currently pondering new phones with a major upgrade from a phone that is pretty much only a phone to a Blackberry-type phone so that I can actually do other things with it. I played with the Pearl at the store yesterday and am not sure I like the fact that the keyboard buttons are not single. The A/S are one button, D/F one button, etc. Though it's more "phone looking" than the others. I'll be watching to see what your other readers think.
And I vote for the brown lacy number. It's hot. You won't be wearing the coat inside, so it's all good.
If you choose black, pop some bright colored heels with it...hot pink or arrest me red, maybe?
My phone isn't even capable of receiving text messages (no joke), so I will leave technology advice to your other readers!

I have a friend who has an iPhone and he loves it. I think he's made out with it he loves it so much. And have you seen the commercials? With the fancy internet browsing? How could you not want that, is what i'm saying.
IMHO, I think the CCBO is the way to go. I second the vibrant shoes - maybe red pumps and a chunky red necklace? Or perhaps something springier. You could get new shoes AND new jewelry out of the deal! SCORE!
As for the phone, I am currently rocking a super slow Razr, so I'm not the girl to help with that question...but I do covet the iphone!
I love my iphone and I'm not remotely interested in the latest in technology or phones for that matter. It was a sursy from my husband. I haven’t downloaded the first song to it but love all of the other features.
The brown lace number gets my vote, definitely not too springy.
Go with the black outfit. The brown is cute but the black looks more black tie-ish.
I'd go with the black...but accessorize it strikingly. But then, I'm all about accessories.
I know nothing about cell phones (other than how to use one to go over my minutes every.single.month) so I'm glad you asked me about clothes. I know clothes (I wear them quite frequently).
I vote brown outfit. It's sex-ay (and how often do you get to feel sexy while pregnant, right?) and I don't think the black one is quite "black tie" enough. (Plus, you know 90 percent of the women there will be sporting black outfits, so you should stand out).

So I must admit- i WAS ONCE A CELL PHONE SELLING, CREEPY, NERD TALKING WOMAN.
That being said, it was years ago, and technology has def changed. I have the BB 8830, and it's fine but does not have a camera. I would go for the curve since it is a bb, and has a camera to take pictures of strange subway goers (I once saw a 12 year old boy sit on the subway and knit- strange sight). We all have the bb curve or 8830 through work, so I am pretty sure they rock. Go for the curve though- they are also smaller and less bulky.
As for the outfit- the brown one is beautiful- why not show off your sexy pregnant body? Plus its not really "sexy" since you are pregnant- pregnant women can get away woth a lot.
I think that I fall into the "Lurky McLurkerson from Lurkville" category, but I have advice!
1. I like the brown outfit -- it's springy, but not too much so (as it is still early "spring" and we just got 16 inches of snow here in Milwaukee ... er, Lurkville).
2. Please...for the love of all things good and holy in the world...get an iPhone. I debated for weeks over the purchase, and (much like yourself) I hate the creepy salespeople at cell phone stores that try to convince you that the phone that is geeking out/not functioning when you're playing with it in the store is an "older model," and that really, paying $140 a month for 150 anytime minues is a good deal. Right.
The iPhone seriously is everything I've ever wanted in a phone, is extremely user-friendly, and takes decent pictures that are easily uploadable. (I swear, I'm not some secret apple representative posing as a lurker...I'm just so happy with my phone that I would never go back to a "regular" cell phone ever again.)
Oh! Plus, when you get the iPhone, you activate it/sign up for your plan in the comfort of your own home, rather than in some high-pressure cell phone store where the heat is blasting, there's nowhere to sit, and there are 800 disgruntled people in line before you.
Ahem. I think that concludes my "advice" session of this comment. Love the blog!
Can't help with the phone considering I just upgraded from a 5 year old Nokia a couple of months ago.
I like the CCBO as well. With fun shoes. I got some great red shoes last year this time from Nordstrom. They had a really wide selection of red shoes last spring. Maybe the same is true this year.
I love my iphone more than words can describe, it's shallow, yes, but it is really the coolest thing EVAH! Very easy to use and you can do so much with it.
The brown lacy outfit is gorgeous and very flattering. I say pick that.
Go for the sexy brown lace outfit -- why should your parents get all the attention?

1. Here's a phone you should NEVER get: The Moto Q. Never get that phone.
2. I like CCBO the best; it is more classy and flattering, and those two things are always a good combo.
3. I second all listed opinions that you should do a different colored shoe with the dress; perhaps a metallic-y green, or a gold (with gold jewelry), or you could do a color - just don't get too garish with the color of the shoe - it's better to do those things in moderation :)

I just got a BlackBerry Pearl a few weeks ago, and I totally love it. However, web pages tend to load kinda slow, so if that will bother you, I would go with the iPhone. However however, my friend who has an iPhone can't receive picture messages. If you want to send him a picture on his phone, you have to email it to him. I think this is absolute nonsense.
Of the two outfits, I prefer SBLO.

2. Wear the black. The brown is cute, but this is a black tie affair, thus you should wear the black outfit. Like others have said, wear some colourful heels, and you'll look stunning.
Brown lace. Because it is HOT, and pregnant ladies don't always get to look as hot as they are. And it's dressier. And everyone else will be in black. And it's HOT. And I am a suckah for a neckline like it's got, and the shoes are most excellent, also. Such as.

okay - ms. delurkson here...i just stumbled upon your blog a few weeks ago and am greatly enjoying it. like you, i had a modesty initiative in the same family as the duck curtain in high school and have become somewhat of a heathen since then...but, anyway, on to the question at hand. i haven't read many of the other comments, but i'm totally with the classic dress. in theory, the brown lacy number is nicer, but it just doesn't do you (and your cute baby bump) justice. makes you look a bit chunky from the side, which you are TOTALLY NOT (you are sleek, sexy pregnant, which is quite the opposite of chunky...) and, i vote for the blackberry - love the blackberry! and also a huge fan of RIM...either of the versions of the blackberry will work, depending on your preferences...
My hubby has the iPhone and I have a Blackberry. Mine takes better quality pictures, but he has more "stuff." I would say go with the iPhone. He LOVES that phone.

I have a blackberry pearl and love it. I often use the internet and work/personal email and it rocks. The curve is a little more like the treo, a little more expensive and not always with a camera. But I always play with the iPhone with amazement when my friend is around who owns one. But its much more in price as well.
Also the brown dress is my fav, the shoes are killer.

I like the brown get-up, but given the weather, maybe you should go with #2. You can wait and wear the brown deal around week 32 when it's getting a bit warmer.

iPhone! A THOUSAND TIMES iPHONE! There is NOTHING I don't like about mine. It has changed my life. It has changed the lives of every other person I've convinced to get one. You must get the iPhone! Remember the photos I took of us in Boudin? They were on my iPhone! And they were good quality! And the seriously awesome thing about the iPhone is that you are ALWAYS connected to the Internet and it's included in your price plan. ALSO you get 100 free texts a month! (Do you like to text? I love to text!) The iPhone is also an iPod! And a weather device! And a calculator! And it has clocks for different time zones!
Honestly, the iPhone is just sexier. You will love it, I promise.
As for outfits: I would go with CCBO, and I concur on the exciting shoes front (ooh, maybe a leopard print? or a gold? And I saw the most amazing zebra print ones ON SALE on Nine West's website today). That way, if it's NOT black tie, you're not QUITE so black-tied up. And if it IS, then you're still super fancy enough. Does that make sense?

And I think I like the black outfit--I'd go for red or pink accessories....wait, okay, yes, pink---like greyish pink--do you know what I mean. With smoky eyes. And a 20's type wave in you hair. I seriously have the perfect pointy heels and the best (vintage) clutch. If I were in NY, I'd run it on over.
And if you get the iPhone in time for the event, make sure you have a greyish pink background on the screen :-) Just kidding....

I guess I'm a bit of a lurker since you don't know me but I read your blog all the time so I'm a regular lurker :). I have the iPhone. I love the iPhone. A couple of things: I use it to get work and personal email and there is about a fifteen minute delay in that it downloads about every fifteen minutes. But you can ask it to refresh as often as you can. There is also an adjustment to typing and texting. It's very frustrating after having a blackberry but you get used to it in about a week or so and it also learns what you type and does the word complete very well. The camera is ok but no flash from what I know so pictures at night are not always great but not terrible. The other features are amazing; you have gps, weather, you tube (great source of entertainment when you are stuck waiting for the subway or are waiting for something for a while, itunes, and the internet is 100 times better than any other phone/blackberry I would argue. It's fast, it acts just like on your computer with bookmarks and you can have a bunch of pages open at once. You can maximize and minimize the size of the print with the cool touch-zoom. I really think that it's a great phone :). I have dropped mine quite a bit and it's starting to show (had it since September), so i would go with a case if I buy one. They are pretty expensive to fix/replace so might as well. I had one but it broke and I never got a new one and regret it. There are some cool rubber ones that don't make the phone a whole lot bulkier but are actually very good at protecting it.

Not an expert in phones but I did want to chime in that the black looks better. Although cute, the brown looks a little bit like pajamas to me.
Yet another lurker from lurksville chiming in. I have a Blackberry Pearl that I am absolutely in love with. It actually receives email before my computer. The keys take a bit of getting used to, but trust the guy in the store that tells you it will adapt to your typing. I'm actually a little freaked out by how much it knows what I'm going to say. But if you want the internet and all of its flashy glory, the iPhone has better internet.

I'm no help on the phone since I only use my phone for talking, not e-mailing. But SBLO all the way. It makes you look so slim-legged, and the laciness is pretty. It also looks much dressier to me, and that'd be better for black tie.
My sister has a pink Blackberry Pearl and is in love. I, on the otherhand, have the Cheapy McCheaperson phone and my only access to the interweb is while at work... Sigh...

I cannot help you with the phone part, as I'm currently rocking a two-year-old flip phone on a pay-as-you-go plan that has no crazy modern features like EMAIL or WEB SURFING. You lucky, crazy, future girl.
Also, I like the black outfit, but I see your point about it being the obvious way to go, so if you want to shake it up a bit and wear the brown, that's cute, too. I second the people who suggested black outfit with red shoes, though. Conservative black outfit with a hint of the unexpected. Win-win!

1. I have a Blackberry Curve. I like it. I like it a lot, actually but I think I would like an iPhone more.
2. I think the black outfit is safer for black tie.
Another Lurky McLurkelson here to say that I have no opinion on the phone (considering I walk into the store and say "give me your cheapest! "), but I love the CCBL...CCLB...CBCL...? Whatever, the brown one! And I love the shoes that go with it. Although the idea of a new pair of shoes is so nice that it might be worth wearing the black outfit. Okay, delurking to say that I'm no help at all.
i really want an iphone so i'll suggest that you get that. then you can blog all the time. although i think it works best for those with small hands and fingers.

Lurkville Lisa here... Wish I had an iPhone. I vote black because you're not going to want to wear it much more this year... it's black! in the spring! And then you'll be pissed when you look at it in the closet and think of how you bought it and never wore it once.
On the other hand, if you're about to bust out of the brown (which looks like it may be close) so you won't be able to wear it any more, then what the hell, wear the brown while you can.
They're both cute, and you look fantastic in them.

I like the black outfit better. I have an iPhone and used to have a Blackberry -- an older model more like the Curve or the 8830 than the Pearl. I love the iPhone's actual phone, the internets is awesome, and the other features are really fun. However, when it comes to actually typing an email, I miss the spacious keyboard of the Blackberry. Maybe I have fat, clumsy fingers, but it's hard to type accurately on the iPhone's little touch keyboard.
As for the technology, I'm sort of craving an iPhone, so that's my recommendation. The outfit? If it's more formal occasion, go with the brown. Can your (pregnant) feet handle the heels? If not, treat yourself to a new set of lower-heeled but lovely preggo shoes to go with the lovely black outfit.

Love both outfits. I can't help you with those.
As for the phone. Up here in Canada, I worked for an american call center for cell phones and I had to deal with both iphones and black berrys and the like. I would reccommend the Iphone, as it has more of what you want, and the technical help is phenomonal! Where as the others the technical help isn't always as great and theres always lots of different problems. The only thing I didn't like about the iphone was the extra "stuff" like media packages etc that you have to pay for to have the phone, but well worth it.
i just got the BB Pearl last week and am LOVING it! its nice and compact but it sure works its butt off like all the bigger ones :)

I just got an AT&T Tilt and I _love_ it. That said, of your choices, the Blackberry 8830 is probably the one I'd go with.
Definitely the black outfit. The brown one, although really attractive, is a little racy for a black tie event honoring your parents. Better to go the conservative route imho.

I have the Blackberry curve and LOVE it! Not one problem can I think of! And I know i'm in the minority, here...but I don't love the brown outfit. I like the black one a lot! YOU still look darling in both, though:)
I wouldn't get the iPhone if you want to read or send emails. They are actually really hard to type on, even they are very pretty. The blackberry is much more practical in that way. All the executives at my office have the curve, and they are a picky bunch. It's my dream phone, so I'd recommend that, especially over the Pearl, which has a smaller screen and keypad.
I also like the black outfit. It's classier for a fancy event.
I have an iPhone and love love love it. I also find it very easy to type on. I think that is just a matter of your typing style. I actually use my finger and not my thumbs and go very fast. But definitely got down and play with whatever you think you want - it really is about gut feeling.

lurky here...i might be too late on this, you posted awhile ago but i am one of those nerdish speaking salespeople...anyways. i have had 3 of the 4 phones you mentioned (not the 8830, it has no camera). the iPhone WAS cool, but i would wait until the new version comes out (supposedly soon-ish) because the current one doesn't do picture messaging or have supa-fast internet (none of the phones you listed do, actually. if you have a treo 750, your internet will probably be faster on the treo than on any of the phones you mentioned, depending where exactly you live). plus, i had an issue with emails not sending immediately, which irked me to no end, because i use my email a LOT and eventually sent me the way of the blackberry curve--which i love. the GPS is super handy...plus the camera is better than that of the pearl. and the push email rocks...i get my email on my phone before i get in it my outlook on my computer. awesome!
that said...i'll probably get an iPhone when the new ones come out. hope i helped a little!! :)
