Four Things

1. J and I have been married for eight and a half years, and while I know we know each other very well, every now and then, something happens which makes me realize we SUPERknow each other. For example, the other day, upon seeing a circus ad:

Me: You know, I am really against the circus.
J: Is this based entirely on the clowns, and the fact that you saw Water for Elephants?
Me: ...yes.

2. I've started a new gig over at CafeMom, on attempting to find a balance with regard to healthy kids' eating. Here are my first three posts.

3. I am kind of into this whole Draw Something app. (For the uninitiated, it's basically Pictionary.) I say kind of because while I love it in theory, I am kind of hyperfocused when it comes to my drawings, and then I get bogged down, and long story short, I think I have 572 active games going. Do not let that deter you, however! It is amazing! Or whatever adjective you would use to describe a game wherein you get to do this:

4. I recently decided to start working out regularly, as opposed to once every millennium, turkey leg in hand. I have been going to Pilates twice a week, and then doing some Jillian Michaels Power Yoga business. I bring this up because while I'm not trying to lose weight, I am trying to...tone? Is that a thing? Anyway, the problem is, after I work out (always at night), I am basically ready to eat a sofa. What do I do about this? Eat all the things? Eat nothing? Please advise, people who exercise at night!

Try some lean protein after a work out, it helps regenerate the muscles and makes them more defined so you can see the toning ( I use the same term) effects faster. The protein should also help you feel less hungry.

Drink a glass of chocolate milk. It'll help your belly feel full and it's also very good for you for reasons that are better explained here.

That ravenous sensation will subside over time if you are consistent with your work outs. Also, be sure you aren't mistaking hunger for thirst. Down a couple of huge bottles of cold water, you might be a little dehydrated. Jillian's Power Yoga is great!

After I work out at night (and am subsequently ready to eat an elephant) I usually eat a banana with peanut butter, or a healthy spinach shake thing with some nut butter. Makes me feel full, plus yay protein!

I have so much to say.

First of all...YES. The eating. When I work out, I basically stand at my fridge and eat every single thing that doesn't eat me first. What the hell?

I play draw something...but my pictures are horrifyingly bad. I can't believe anyone wants to play with me.

ALSO THE CIRCUS. ALL OF IT. YES.

I might have to get an iphone just so I can play Draw Something with you.

So! About the wanting to eat all the things after a workout. I have Thoughts.

1. Make sure you're nourished before your workout. Don't eat right before (PUKE), but 30-60 minutes beforehand, have something small, like a banana with some peanut butter. You want some protein and some carbs and some sugar. But also, make sure you're getting good nutrition throughout the day; a lot of people who work out don't get enough protein.

2. After you workout, like everyone else said, get some lean protein. Low fat chocolate milk is generally my choice. After that, stuff with some fiber, like apples, is good b/c it'll help you fill up. Just remember, the better the food you eat post workout, the better you'll recover.

I tend to chug a ton of water right after my workout, because I'm thirsty and it also fills me up enough so I don't eat all the things.

But it will get better. Your body will get used to it. Either that or I'm just weird.

I had all sorts of comments regarding your sofa hunger, but these ladies have already hit the nail on the head, especially in regard to lean protein. Which, despite my efforts to convince myself otherwise, does not include a burger with the works and fries. Bummer!

Everytime I up my workout by a day or significantly by intensity or time; I feel ravenous! However, my body adjusts and soon I don't feel that any more. I drink a lot of water and eat throughout the day; but obviously when I suddenly start working out more my body is all, "Whoa, we need more fuel for yo crazy azz!" Then it kinda chills out; try not to eat all the things in the meantime - its hard.

Ahaha funny draw of the fart. I will try to find this Draw Something app :)

Ya know, I just drew "Fart" for someone and also employed the word "Poof"--I find this interesting, in that people use a word to describe something that (at least in my experience) does not even resemble something as dainty and subtle as "Poof"--I think it's sort of the passive agressive form of "Riiiiip"

OMG--I just wrote an entire reply about the onomatopoeia of gas. I am really sorry.
